CARES Act: Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund – Student Aid

MDCC has received the following sources of funds from the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act.
QUARTERLY REPORTS
- An acknowledgement that the institution signed and returned to the Department the
Certification and Agreement and the assurance that the institution has used, or intends
to use, no less than 50 percent of the funds received under Section 18004(a)(1) of
the CARES Act to provide Emergency Financial Aid Grants to students.
- The Funding Certification Agreement was submitted by Mississippi Delta Community College on April 22, 2020. The College was awarded $2,743,944 in total for Emergency Relief funds. Fifty percent (50%) of these funds are allocated for direct student emergency assistance.
- The total amount of funds that the institution will receive or has received from the
Department pursuant to the institution’s Certification and Agreement [for] Emergency
Financial Aid Grants to Students.

- The total amount of Emergency Financial Aid Grants distributed to students under Section
18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act as of the date of submission (i.e., as of the 30-day
Report and every 45 days thereafter).
- As of October 10, 2020, Mississippi Delta Community College has made grant disbursements to students in the amount of $1,371,972. These funds were distributed to students through Bank Mobile by direct deposit or check.
- The estimated total number of students at the institution eligible to participate
in programs under Section 484 in Title IV of the Higher Education Act of 1965 and
thus eligible to receive Emergency Financial Aid Grants to students under Section
18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act.

- The final round of refunds was issued on June 22, 2020. Refunds were awarded to 647 students. This round consisted of students from Round one who were enrolled in over 15 credit hours. They received $ 9.88 for each credit hour over this threshold amount.

- (a) Student had to be enrolled in classes as of March 13, 2020
- (b) Students were given until May 25, 2020 to have a completed FAFSA on file with Mississippi Delta Community College.
- (c) Students enrolled in fully online classes prior to March 13, 2020 are not eligible.
- (d) Dual enrolled students aren’t eligible.
- The College started pulling information on May 26, 2020 that met these criteria on
May 26, 2020. The students were sorted by credit hours as of March 13, 2020. A cap
not to exceed 15 hours was placed. An hourly amount of $81.88 was then used to calculate
the grant award. Grant Awards ranged from $245.64 for a student enrolled in three
(3) credit hours to $1,228.20 for a student enrolled in fifteen (15) or more credit
hours.
